Monsey Wedding

Monsey is a hamlet (and also a census-designated place) in Rockland County, New York, United States. The population was 14,504 at the 2000 census.

Monsey is in the Town of Ramapo. The hamlet has a large and influential community of Orthodox Jews, consisting predominantly of Hasidim and other Orthodox groups (Hareidim).

Monsey is also home to the Vizhnitz-Monsey hasidim who live mostly in their own Village of Kaser.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.8 km (2.2 mi). 5.7 km (2.2 mi) of it is land and 0.1 km (0.04 mi) of it (0.90%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 14,504 people, 2,981 households, and 2,596 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,533.9/km (6,554.3/mi). There were 3,098 housing units at an average density of 541.2/km (1,400.0/mi). The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.82% White, 4.32% African American, 0.03% Native American, 1.05% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.86% of the population.
